I love that show, "What Not To Wear". It helps people look their best. And I personally hate being photographed - I Know, Right? But I do have some tips when you're prepping for the big day that will help you enjoy the day. Things to think about and do that will help your portraits come out great, and you'll love having them on display.
- Think about color coordination. Pick a palette of about three colors that you love and try to stay within that range. It is probably easier than you think, because if you love the colors you probably already have some in your wardrobe.
- Think about adding a "pop" of color. This means you may have 2 main colors in your grouping, then add some pops of a third color with layers, individual pieces or accessories.
- Patterns - yes! But think as an accent if you are in a larger group. Most of the clothing should be solids and then a coordinated big strip or large solid graphic pattern will add some interest if its mixed in.
- Go Online. I am amazed at how many websites offer coordinated clothing ideas for portraits. You don't have to go out and buy the ideas, but it may give you some inspiration.
- Layers and Accessories are fun! We can add them, leave them out, mix it up a little, and they're a great way to add a little color to a solid.
- Wear clothes that fit you well, not too loose, not too tight. You may be standing, sitting, moving your arms around, even possibly dancing! (but only if I really like you) If you have to stop and tuck in a shirt or adjust a waistband, you'll get frustrated after a while... and kids will too.
- Don't forget the shoes! I have 3 girls. We love shoes. Just make sure everyone agrees on which ones while you're picking out your clothes.
- Remember to have fun with your outfits! If you enjoy how you look it will show up in your photographs. Pick things you feel great in and you will shine!
